It’s hard to imagine a home infused with more soul. I’m truly grateful for the invitation to capture my dear friend’s home. The cozy richness of this space is nourishing to step into. I give my utmost appreciation to Cam for his poetic eye, dedication to thoughtful renovation, and unique artistic journey in shaping such a dwelling.
Kylie and JT had already been dating and doing life with one another for over 10 years. They met in school and, in many ways, grew up together. This wedding was an intimate celebration with their closest people. It was my absolute pleasure to capture.
From my dear friends’ getting ready time before their wedding… I absolutely adore any excuse to visit such beautifully designed properties and to be with such lovely humans.
Ben wanted a Harry Met Sally moment for his and Kristin’s wedding, ringing in the New Year together at midnight, and they got it. The whole day was full of sweetness and good feels from all those involved.
This lovely September wedding was from 2021! Since planning my own wedding at Carolina Grove these past several months, I’ve referred back to these images time and time again. I’m delighted to finally share a handful here.
I got to photograph this sweet boy’s parents’ wedding back in 2018. After years of following their house renovation journey through Instagram stories, it was an absolute pleasure to see them again, visit their home, and meet their precious little one.
I photographed this family right after their first child was born. Now they have a second. Seeing families through this growth is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer.
Totally worth the drive to Charleston for this sweet time with Kris and Kori. Kris and I had been scheming for weeks, discussing location options for him to propose to Kori. She may have gotten a little suspicious leading up to the proposal, but they were both so happy and so in love. It was an absolute a pleasure to be there.
It was much smaller than they’d originally planned, but the day turned out to be just what they wanted.
Covid-19 meant keeping this wedding small. Jeremy and Natalia had their children (his four sons and her daughter), pastor, and a friend who played music. The ceremony was by the Eno River off the Riverwalk Trail in Hillsborough, NC. This location was significant to them as a family; they’ve spent much time along these banks. It felt special and authentic to them.
The Craggy Gardens Visitor Center is a 1 hour drive from Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We took the Craggy Gardens Trail from the visitor center parking to Craggy Flats, a mountain bald. The foggy morning made it extra dreamy.
Since gathering numbers were limited, and only family would be able to attend the wedding, Rebekah and Robert decided to have two ceremonies, one more relaxed with friends on Saturday and one more formal with family on Sunday. The following photos are from their ceremony with friends on Saturday.
In this season of Covid-19, Jesse + Lizzy decided to keep their date for getting married but delay their celebration with friends and family. They had three close friends present for the ceremony, and enabled others to witness their wedding through Zoom.
Jae and Shaun met while teaching English in South Korea. They got married on The Durham Hotel rooftop. Their reception was held on the second floor and mezzanine, and they had an afterparty in the penthouse and private rooftop space. This Durham Hotel wedding was extra special, because Jae worked at The Durham and everyone knew her there! I still enjoy running into familiar faces from Jae and Shaun’s wedding.
Like so many other couples this season, Lauren and Thuvi’s wedding was canceled. So we got creative with their photography credit and took to the mountains! They got their makeup done, got flowers from their florist, and made the hike up before changing into their dresses at the top.
So happy to be able to continue photographing families responsibly during this time of Covid-19. This was a 15 minute mini session with Marissa, Cory, and Sienna by the Eno River before recent flooding.
Before Covid-19 quarantine began in Durham, Natasha Ames had just renovated and opened this beautiful new space for her permanent makeup and lash extension business. I adore Natasha’s bohemian aesthetic and was so impressed with the outcome of her renovations.
Maternity family session at the Fews Ford access to the Eno River. The perfect setting for family photos during Covid-19 social distancing.
Chelsea and Rachael’s wedding was on New Years Eve! Wonderful way to start their next chapter together. They got ready and had their ceremony at the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy Farm, just outside Asheville, NC. Close friends and family came from across the country, from Florida to Seattle.
I’ve never been to a wedding showcase before, but the one this past weekend at The Meadows set the bar high. It was packed with exceptional venders, including delicious bites and drinks.
Murray and Marie had their wedding ceremony and reception at The Cotton Room, a restored textile mill in Durham’s Golden Belt.
Rachel and Charlie are recently engaged but have been each other’s rock and balance for the past five years. It was my true pleasure to witness and attempt to even begin to capture the intimacy and affection shared between these two.
Family and friends gathered for their summer wedding just outside Asheville, in the rolling hills of the Appalachian Mountains on Claxton Farm. The day was complete with farm animal fraternizing, lawn games, pasture walks, live music, and dancing.
Their wedding day was lovely, full of friends and family in a beautiful setting with delicious food and music supplemented by their own vinyl collection.
Margaret and Oliver’s wedding was nestled right in the middle of downtown Raleigh. I was delighted we were able to take advantage of Bridge Club’s rooftop and thrilled that Margaret and Oliver were game to climb that latter…
Margaret is my first bride to make her own wedding dress from scratch! She bought the fabric, found a vintage design, and scheduled the time for her mother to come down from Canada for a week to work on the project together in her new studio space. Delighted to witness and capture some of the process.
I had such a great time photographing cosmetic tattoo artist, Natasha, in her beautiful office space on 9th Street in Durham.
This wedding came right before James and Meredith’s move to New York, a lovely southern celebration with friends and family before making a home together up in the big city.
I met Tammy through photography, as another photographer in Durham. She is gentle, thoughtful, super creative, and has a calming, soulful beauty about her and the space she creates. So excited to see this woman as a mother. And to meet her young one.
This was my first visit to Unscripted Durham. So glad Lindsey and Matt chose this hotel for getting ready. It had beautiful window light and super fun style. And definitely felt like Durham.
I knew it was getting good when Cynthia opened her bag and there were 4 plus pairs of friggin' cool cat glasses.
The last time I saw these two, they were getting married at The Durham Hotel, and I was shooting their wedding! It's been just over a year, and I had the true delight of visiting their home to meet their new little one, Indy, only a month after her birth.
Just turned 30 years old. Feeling good. Looking forward to all the adventures, relationships, and growth yet to come.
Stef is an interior designer here in Charlotte. The face behind Space Lift Decorating...
These two are engaged to be married May 27th! Such a blast running around together. They even introduced me to this beautiful cabin along the river!
It was a suuuuper chilly day in Queen City. Family crossed great distances, even all the way from Georgia, the bride's home country, to celebrate the union of these two. They first met working at Chima, so it was the perfect spot for their reception. Since their hospitality days, they've built a life together here in Charlotte.
We had a legit snow day here in Charlotte! Snow fell all day. Made me so happy. Was thrilled to share snow flakes with these fur balls.
A beautiful day filled with the hearty warmth and support of family and friends, taking care of all the flowers, decorating, sound system, set-up, officiating, music, and signage. The mother of the bride even made all the bridesmaids' skirts!
Cookie-making, bed-jumping, and hall-running? Yes, please. My kind of family photos.
When in Victoria, Anna and I stayed with my friend, Jason, who introduced us to this beautiful park that led from his neighborhood to the beach along Oak Bay. Such a special place. Thanks again, Jason, for being such a stellar host.
One of my favorite corners of Durham, The Durham Hotel. Beautiful spot to run around with these fun guys.
Places like this speak to my soul. Someday I am going to take my children to a beach like this and make a fire and set up camp and just linger and explore. The drama of the coast, the lush vegetation, the dreamy weather... I just love it. Thanks again, dear Anna, for exploring this corner of the world with me!
When Bonnie said she wanted photos with goats, I knew just who to ask: Elodie Farms. Besides their beautiful barns, pastures, and woods of goats, they also have a lake! We took full advantage of our visit and had a blast.
Nothing like coming into a cozy, beautiful old home filled with a warm, loving family and their new bambino.
Linus is 8 months old. Last time I saw this little man he was just 3 weeks! Love seeing his new expressions and interaction with his parents.
Claire and Bryan were originally planning to elope but then found a way to have the kind of intimate, simple wedding they wanted. Friends and family were greatly relieved, and crossed distances to be there.
It was the day before our snow came, and these three were cozied up together, settling into newborn rhythms. So much warmth and tenderness in this home. Grateful to get a peak into early days with young Everett.
I love this family. Feeling fortunate to see these kiddos grow and watch Dustin and Teresa rock as parents.
This is what a wedding can look like when it's all about your people and your place. I was totally charmed by these two lovely people, their community of close ones, and this wooded mountain retreat of theirs.
The day was filled with tender intimate moments, thoughtful details, and very much love - reflecting the gentle, kindhearted spirit of the bride and the playfulness she and Corey share with those close to them.
3 weeks old. Katrina and Mark's first child. A sweet time documenting this beautiful, thoughtful family.
The tone of their weekend was personal, authentic, and seeped in the love and support of friends and family. A close friend led the ceremony; a cousin played the violin; an aunt made her famous cake; someone else grabbed artisan donuts; and many more unique and significant offerings came together to make this day true to Myra and Alex and the rich community they call their own.
Myra's wedding weekend began with a gathering of women in the bountiful yard of Judy Garry, the gardening fairy (a.k.a. Master Gardener Emeritus) of Your Vase or Mind.
In the woods of Saxapahaw... Celebrating the first place they called home as a married couple.
In the bedroom. Golly. Love the ease of affection between these two. They've been sweethearts since high school and are still going strong.
Bunch of love here. Looking forward to seeing what life has in store for these two.
They met while working in South Korea. Now they're back in the states fixin' to do life together.
Hannah was amazing - graceful, centered, brave, and strong. She labored through the night at home and then birthed a healthy, beautiful baby girl at the birthing center.
Had a blast shooting these maternity photos with Katrina in the Eno. And those flower crowns? Yep, she made 'em.
It has been a pleasure crossing paths with this woman these past 8 years - between college, communities, housing, grad school, and more. Looking forward to seeing where life brings her next.
Torey is known for her delicate botanical watercolors. And her studio! The space alone reflects her fresh creative energy: light streaming in, inspirational books and collections, paint, ink, pens, brushes, framed art - all tastefully and naturally placed. It was a treat to see her in action.
It's that time of the year - pumpkins, sweet potatoes, squash, apples, stews, homemade bread, warm drinks... This particular recipe has become a seasonal favorite and can be swung with pumpkin or sweet potatoes (the one below is pumpkin).
A stunning hike with these two (and Rocco) among the foggy meadows, rocks, wild ponies, and transitioning foliage.
Isabel and Sebastian had a lovely fall wedding at the courthouse in downtown Hillsborough, then went down to the Eno River with their families for some photos. It was just right for them. It was my absolute pleasure to photograph this sweet time.
